Happy Monday! I spent this week keeping up with the latest AI / tech releases and updates so you don't have to. Here are the 4 things I found most interesting.
OpenAI is pulling its models out of Cursor over Elon, and Cursor says they were only about 5% of its traffic anyway.
On August 28 OpenAI said it intends to wind down the contract putting its models in Cursor, with a proposed shutoff of November 12, after SpaceX's acquisition opened a change-of-control window OpenAI chose to use. It says it “cannot be confident” SpaceX will stay inside its terms, and it is already withholding future models. Cursor CEO Michael Truell replied on X that “OpenAI models serve about 5% of Cursor user traffic,” his own unaudited number, and that they're still talking.
Sony Music and Warner Chappell sued Anthropic and named Dario Amodei personally, a year after the $1.5 billion authors' settlement.
Sony Music Publishing, Warner Chappell and 33 affiliated publishers filed late Friday, August 28, in the Northern District of California, naming Anthropic plus cofounders Dario Amodei and Benjamin Mann. The complaint alleges “illegally torrenting, scraping, and downloading” books and songbooks of lyrics and sheet music, in what it calls “one of the largest and most blatant ongoing thefts of intellectual property in history.” Anthropic says it disagrees and will defend itself in court.
Anthropic signed people out of Claude because malware on their own computers was quietly draining their usage limits.
In emails to affected users reported August 30, Anthropic said infostealers, Vidar, LummaC2, StealC, RedLine and Acreed on Windows plus Atomic Stealer on a few Macs, copied Claude login sessions off infected computers for someone to replay later. The tell it gave: “If your usage limits looked like they refilled and then drained while you weren't using Claude, this was likely the cause.” It signed the affected sessions out, removed saved cards, and says the malware isn't related to Claude.
OpenClaw shipped a release containing about half the pull requests in the project's entire history.
The open-source personal assistant project released v2026.8.1, nicknamed OpenClaw 2.0, late on August 30 US time. Its blog credits 933 contributors, 569 of them first-timers, and nearly 17,000 pull requests, about half of everything ever merged into it. Headline feature is shared cloud sessions, where a teammate can join your live agent work or take it over with context intact, though the docs are blunt that ownership and presence are “usability features, not security boundaries.”
Those were the biggest AI updates on my radar this week.
On My Mind
I just came back from a hacker house where I spent 4 days with 15 of the most cracked founders in Turkey, and it was amazing.
It reminded me that your environment is what shapes you the most. You cannot outgrow your beliefs and limitations if you don’t encounter these kinds of people. In an environment like this, everyone is pushing each other further, helping out, competing in a friendly way and so on.
Of course, these opportunities aren’t always available to everyone. What I used to do (and still do) is get involved in online communities and curate my X/Instagram algorithms to show me content that resonates with me and my goals.
Instagram is more dangerous since you’re prone to doomscrolling, but X is much better because it’s a different environment with cracked ppl giving out value.
So try to manufacture your environment. Listen to certain types of songs, put up posters, create vision boards, curate your algorithm. This will help you get similar benefits.
Of course, the best thing would be to actually find and engage with great people in real life, but this is a different way to do so.
